A new project, funded by the TUI Care Foundation and implemented by FETAV (Fethiye Tourism, Promotion, Education, Culture and Environment Foundation), is underway to raise awareness of COVID-19 in rural areas in the Fethiye and Seydikemer districts.

Generally, people living in these areas work in the tourism sector carrying out mainly gardening and maintenance jobs. A significant decrease in their income means they are unable to afford some of the personal protection materials used in the prevention of COVID-19.

20 villages have been selected to take part in the project and awareness meetings are currently being held with a total of 3,500 people living in these areas.

During the meetings, the people receive easy to understand, creative and interactive training covering social distancing, personal hygiene and other general COVID-19 related matters.

In addition to the training 20,000 disposable masks, which people in rural areas are having difficulty accessing, are also being distributed.

COVID free villages in Turkey project

Workshops will also be held in Fethiye and Seydikemer district centers.

The rural communities COVID-19 training program will be available to trainers who want to carry out workshops in other rural areas.

COVID-19 information signs will be placed in the common areas of the villages.

Thank you to Esra Ünsay for the update.
