The team behind Fethiye’s Soul Train have confirmed the popular fundraiser will be leaving the station once again later this year, aiming to raise thousands more lira for local causes.
Two events in June and September last year were a huge success, attracting hundreds who helped boost the coffers of charities working for the good of children and animals across the area.
And both are set to benefit again through causes selected to benefit from this year’s event, to be held at the Leb-i-derya Aksazlar Beach Club on the Fethiye Peninsula on the evening of Thursday, September 5.
Bookings are now being taken for the evening, which begins when doors open at 6pm and is headlined by popular singer Onur Asilkılıç who will perform from 7pm, supported as ever by DJ Umit Kasim later in the evening.
The programme also includes a raffle for prizes donated by supporters and local businesses, a silent auction and, of course, the now traditional foam party to close the evening.
Spokeswoman Gill Sanderson said she’s delighted to be able to confirm a third event following the retirement of founder George Rimmer.
“Admittedly Karen Okka and I were worried it would be so much harder without George’s drive and enthusiasm and we have missed him enormously,” she said. “However the new committee was determined not to let the momentum slip and we hope to raise even more money this year for some very worthy causes.”
Beneficiaries from September’s event will be the FETAV-supported Fethiye Yaşam İçin Yarış (Race For Life) which will use donations from Soul Train to support children from Fethiye suffering from cancer; the other 50% will go to the HANDS neutering scheme, under the umbrella of Animal Care Üzümlü.
“All 700 places at the last event headlined by the fantastic Funky Fonics were taken within a week so we really would urge everyone to reserve their places as soon as possible,” said Gill. “We can either take individual bookings or, if you prefer to sit with friends, you can make reservations for tables of six or more.”
Each place is offered at 70.00tl per person, including dinner from the open buffet; reservations can be made via Gail O’Neill from Animal Care Üzümlü, the Three Cs shop and Bambu Restaurant in Çalış, the Mulberry Tree Restaurant and the FIG shop in Fethiye and the Animal Aid charity shop in Ovacık.
Donations for the raffle can also be left at the same locations with the addition of Café Soul in Çalış. Local businesses who would like to contribute can do so by contacting Karen Okka via the Messenger app.
