The New Year’s Day splash has become a favourite on the calendar for many who enjoy the spectacle of people in fancy dress taking a dip in the chilly winter sea at Çalış Beach.
The New Year’s Day splash
The sun shone on around 200 spectators who turned out to support and cheer the eleven hardy souls, who braved the cold water on New Year’s Day to raise money for Çalış Children’s Charity (3C’s).
There were a variety of costumes including a couple of elves, the Man with the Golden Gun, and a rather fetching mermaid!
In they go…
The ‘splashers’ have to spend a full five minutes up to their necks in the water before they can come out and enjoy a bowl of hot soup, provided by Summer Breeze restaurant, to warm them up again.
Raising money for a great cause
The splashers were sponsored by family and friends to take part, raising valuable funds for 3C’s who, provide help for sick and underprivileged children in the local area.
3C’s also invited another local charity, Animal Aid to join with them for the splash.
There were quite a few animal spectators too, some even joined in the splash.
Local press and TV reporters came along to the event and interviewed spectators and a member of the 3C’s committee.
Çalış Children’s Charity would like to offer their sincere thanks to the splashers who provided everyone with a fun day whilst raising, much needed, funds to enable them to continue to help children in the area.
The total amount raised will be announced when the sponsorship money has been collected.
