Fethiye Bowling Association back in action
Thank you to June Waddell Hall for the update.
So, after a long period of inactivity, the FBA has begun to return to some semblance of normal bowling life, albeit with the Covid-19 constraints that we are now so familiar being applied to our bowlers. Competitions and League play have returned, with enthusiastic support.
Appropriately, the first competition of the somewhat shortened season was the Memorial Shield, one of our most important ones, when we take a moment to remember members who have died. With a huge entry list, three days were required to complete the competition, with June 21st seeing the quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals played. After some very spirited play in the qualifying rounds, Mel Lockley and Phil Richards competed in the final, with Mel Lockley winning 21-17. Congratulations to Mel Lockley and commiserations to Phil R. A wonderful start to the FBA’s return.
The following week saw the Ladies’ Knockout, a singles competition which took place on Friday, June 26th. Again, the competition was intense as everyone wanted to lift the beautiful trophy donated by Holident. Three victories to 15 saw Kath Watson and Jill Patience reach the final where Kath was unstoppable, winning by a large margin. Congratulations to Kath Watson, winning her first trophy at the FBA and well done Jill for a sterling effort.
Big thankyous must be extended to our Competitions Organiser, Mandy Whettam for getting us started again and to the many members who assisted in making both competitions so successful.
One final note. In conjunction with the return of competitions was the first week of our Summer League, slightly reduced and modified, again owing to time constraints. We have had a huge interest shown, resulting in 6 teams of 6 players, playing in weekly doubles matches. Thanks to Steve Gudmunsen and Kath Watson for getting it up and running.
Only 9 more weeks to go.

The Wednesday table top sales will start again next week in July. The first one will take place on the 8th July and a further 3 will run on the 15th, 22nd and 29th of July . The start time remains unchanged at 11am and we start packing up and stop selling at 1pm.
Safety is paramount for both our volunteers and customers so in line with government guidelines on Covid 19 we will be adhering to the social distancing rules and masks will need to be worn while perusing and purchasing our items on sale.
Embrace will then take a summer break in August and resume the table top sales on Wednesday 2nd September.
There are no plans to re-open the shop in Günlükbaşı which will now remain closed. If you have any items that you wish to donate please can you bring them to the Bambu bar in Çaliş or contact us so that we can arrange for them to be collected.
As always we would like to thank Fidan and her team at Bambu for all the help and support they have always given and continue to give to our charity. Our thanks as well to everyone who donates to us and supports our table top sales all of which the charity depends on. Special thank you to Hülya Yamanoğlu for taking the photos that accompany this article.
We look forward to seeing you all at Bambu again at the table top sales on Wednesdays.
