Germany is famous worldwide for its bakeries offering a variety of dark, whole-grain breads and rolls as well as a selection of delicious cakes. Germans are very proud of their bakeries and have a passion for baking that has been passed down for many generations.
Traditional German bread, savouries and cakes definitely have to be on your list of foodie things to try.
And you don’t have to visit Germany to enjoy the delights of German baking.
We now have our very own German cafe and bakery in Çalış…
Backstube cafe and bakery
Backstube was established in 2009 in Antalya however, three months ago the business relocated to Çalış, a new concept to this area but not to owners Fabian and Inci.
The name Backstube (Back*stu*be) is derived from two words, back meaning bake and stube meaning small, cosy room. Put these together and Backstube is a cosy baking room or a cozy place to come and enjoy tea or coffee with cake.
Backstube is a trendy combination of cafe and bakery. The design is tasteful, the atmosphere relaxed and you will receive a warm, friendly welcome from Fabian, Inci and their team …as well as authentic German cuisine.
You can enjoy a delicious breakfast or lunch, or just a cup of coffee and cake from the mouthwatering selection on offer.
Let’s take a look at some of the delights waiting for you. The menus are added to or changed very regularly to ensure variety.
Anyone for cake…
If you’re a cake lover there’s a real treat in store for you. Choose from a scrumptious selection of home made cakes and enjoy with a coffee, tea or even a milkshake made with fresh fruit..
Backstube also offer a range of home made jams, chutneys, granola, biscotti and more.
Don’t forget the bread
You might just be popping in to pick up some German bread, after all Backstube is a bakery.
All breads and breakfast rolls are traditionally produced by hand with full wheat flour (no white flour is used). The bread lasts a week from the day of baking. That’s if you don’t eat it first!
Backstube bread is an artisan product and they don’t offer a slicing service so you may want to invest in a good bread knife.
If you are just popping in to buy bread, make sure you’re not in a hurry as you’ll find it impossible to not stay a while!
What else do you need to know?
Backstube is located in Foca Mahallesi (Çalış). Click on the link below to be taken to the location on Google maps
They are open seven days a week throughout the summer from 9am to 9pm.
Fabian and Inci have applied for an alcohol license and plan to introduce cheese and meat platters in the evenings with a selection of good red, white and fruit wines. Watch out for more details.
