We reported in early July of the tax office investigation to identify properties being rented where no tax was being declared. At that time the inspection was taking place in the Fethiye area. According to one reader the tax inspectors have now reached Kalkan.

The inspectors are said to be checking water meters, electricity usage and searching for holiday rental properties advertised on the internet and seeing when they are booked. It is also said that they have been asking holiday makers staying in certain properties to fill out declarations of the rental they have paid.

In early July a Turkish Real Estates Federation spokesperson appeared on national TV station NTV and commented that tax investigations of this type are quite common and that nobody should be concerned unless they have broken the law.
