Tuzla Post Ready for Collection

Post for foreign residents of Tuzla is now being delivered to the Boğazici Restaurant on the sea front just down from the Esnaf Hospital.

One of the Tuzla postmen is on long term compassionate leave since his young son was diagnosed with cancer, and there are no plans to employ someone else to cover his work.  Meanwhile post has been piling up (we initially reported this some time ago) and so a Turkish speaking British female resident of Tuzla has negotiated with the PTT for foreigners’ post to be delivered to the Restaurant.  Apparently a huge amount of post has already been collected and what remains is neatly stacked in a basket on the bar.

In theory you have to produce proof of identity to collect post.  When the Fethiye Times photographer arrived, a Turkish resident of Tuzla with an English wife, he was asked to show ID before he was allowed to collect their post.  However, when the FT reporter showed up a little later, an obviously British female, she was allowed to take post from the basket without showing any ID.

The management of Boğazici tell us the post for foreigners is now being delivered on a daily basis and this arrangement will continue until the situation with regard to postmen changes.  So get on down to Boğazici and collect your overdue Christmas cards.
