Undelivered letters and parcels lying in the Hisaronu post office sorting office have left one person in financial dire straights and hundreds without post.

Gloria Houlihan, a resident of Ovacik, contacted us about the situation following a fruitless hunt for an important bank card sent via registered post two weeks earlier from the UK.

Gloria said:

“My friend has been waiting for a replacement bank card sent via registered post from the UK for over two weeks. During that time she has been unable to withdraw money and we have had to help her out.

We checked the online registered post tracking service with no luck so decided to go to the Hisaronu Post Office to see if we could locate this important letter.

When we managed to get into the back office of the Post Office in Hisaronu yesterday and were astounded at the amount of letters and parcels all over the floor, in sacks and in pigeon holes on the wall.

We recognised a lot of the names on the letters, but of course did not take them as we have no legal right to other peoples post.

A lot of the post was made up of bills so this will also cause a lot of problems I should imagine.”

This is not the first time that local residents have been affected by postal backlogs. Last year Fethiye Post Office had similar problems that took months to resolve.

Residents were forced to call into the post office sorting office and try and sift through the large piles of post to retrieve important letters and parcels.

One group of helpful citizens even collected some of the letters and deposited them in a local cafe so that people could pick them up without the hassle of getting access to the sorting office.

It is still unknown if all of the post backlog was actually delivered in the end.

In the meantime if you are waiting for an important letter or parcel and live in the Ovacik/Hisronu area it may well be in the sorting office pile!
