Humidity Turns Fethiye into Sweat-iye

Friday saw normal summer temperatures of around 32 degrees centigrade but with high humidity it was an altogether sticky and uncomfortable day.

Relative humidity is a measure of water vapour in the air. The more humid the air the more our bodies struggle as sweat that is relied on to cool the body takes longer to evaporate. With humid air the sweat just can’t evaporate quickly enough.

The result we feel is that sticky, sweaty feeling we find so uncomfortable.

On Friday afternoon the Fethiye Times weather station recorded a temperature of 32 degrees in the shade – nothing out of the ordinary. But the relative humidity was around 75 percent making it feel much hotter than it really was.

There appears to be no respite from the clammy heat according to weather forecasters.

They expect the humid air to hang around for a couple of weeks.
