The normally dry air and hot sunshine experienced during the summer was suddenly gone yesterday leaving the area muggy, steamy and sweaty.

Fethiye and the surrounding resorts had a break from the unrelenting summer sunshine yesterday when grey cloud formed over the area.

Some places experienced showers and the temperature of around 30 degrees centigrade in the shade at midday was lower than it had been earlier in the week.

However, the moist air increased relative humidity from a comfortable 40 percent to over 70 percent creating an unpleasant muggy and sweaty day.

Luckily a stiff breeze took the edge off the stickiness.

Central Turkey has been experiencing a heat wave over the last few days with temperatures in the capital Ankara exceeding 40 degrees centigrade.

Turkish weather forecasters have been warning people, particularly those with medical conditions and the old, to take care in the heat and only go out during the day if they really need to.
