Election Campaigning Intense

Gocek, Fethiye and Oludeniz

The local Mayoral elections take place at the end of this month and the various candidates for the local Mayor have been attending rally after rally, kissing babies and shaking the hands of as may voters as they can.

The 13 municipalities that make up the current district of Fethiye are being merged into just one with a single mayor to lead them.

Competition for the new district mayor post is intense with many of the previous municipality leaders on the campaign trail including former Fethiye mayor Behcet Saatchi, former Oludeniz mayor Keramettin Yilmaz, Mehmet Uyuk and Muhsin Eryilmaz.

The press have been reporting about many of the public meetings that the candidates have held around the area.

Polling stations will be open on Sunday 30th March when voting begins.

The city of Mugla has had its status incresed to a Büyükşehir and will also he holding elections.

New Marina Opens

Akaca Mah, Fethiye

A ceremony to open the new small boat marina last weekend in the Akarca area of Fethiye was very well attended with the town band playing music and speeches from those involved with the project.

The new marina has capacity for up to 350 small boats.

The project is one of the ‘Fethiye Prestige’ projects championed and spearheded by outgoing municipality mayor Behcet Saatci.


Fethiyespor lost 1 – 0 away to team Manisaspor last Monday.

The next match is sees them against K.Marasspor on 23rd March away.

FethiyeSpor are 15th out of the 19 teams in the PTT1 League with 29 points after 29 matches.

The score sheet for the 29 games played to date is 7 wins, 8 draws and 14 lost.


The Turkish currency ended the week down 1 kurus at 3.68 TL to the British Pound. The previous week it was 3.69 TL.



Spring Heat

A mini heatwave hit the area last Thursday with temperatures hitting the mid 20’s.

The local press published images of people enjoying the warmth and bright sunshine on local beaches and even showed some brave individuals swimming in the sea.
