Marijuana Farm Found in Rented Home

Gocek, Fethiye

Local security teams could not believe their eye’s, it was reported, when they raided a rented Gocek home and found it being used as a Marijuana Farm.

The tenant had set up a complicated but it seems effective hydroponics system to grow the illegal plants.

The teams took away plants, roots, heaters, lights and other technical equipment including electronic temperature control units that were being used to grow the illegal cash crop.

They also seized what they believed to be Marijuana packaged up for sale and drug use paraphernalia.

The evidence is now being tested and the investigation continues.

Election Fever Turns to Violence as Party Offices Trashed

The local press has been full of smiling candidates kissing babies and shaking hands with the electorate as the 30 March election day draws nearer.

But those pictures turned into scenes of political unrest last weekend when a new election office was opened near Baha Sikman road in the Tasyaka area of Fethiye.

It was reported that a crowd gathered to protest at the opening of the offices of the Peoples Democratic Party (HDP) who are a pro-Kurdish political party.

The protest turned to violence when members of the crowd threw through the windows of the office and then attempt to rip down the party emblem from an outside.

The police formed a barricade to hold back the angry crowd and the emblem was eventually removed by the local fire service and the space replaced with a Turkish flag.

The crowd grew in size as word spread and other businesses were also attacked.

A specialist team of police dressed in full riot gear and armed with tear gas complete with a large white water canon vehicle were brought to the scene to disperse the angry crowd.

But more and more people continued to turn up and make shift barricades were built. The crowd continued to grow in size into the evening, split and then reform.

Police continued their work through out the night and into the morning with a final tally of 28 arrests and over 60 detained.

By the morning shops and other businesses around the area reopened and the Council began the clean up operation.

The co-chairman of the HDP is reported to have said that the attack on the offices in Fethiye was the 20th such incident to have taken place.

The HDP was formed last year as a sister party to the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) which holds power mostly in the southeast of Turkey to compete in the mayoral elections in the west of Turkey.
