International Women’s Day Celebrated in Fethiye
Various activities took place around town last Saturday to celebrate International Women’s Day.
There was a ceremony by the Ataturk Monument at Beskaz Square and a fair outside the Fethiye Cultural Centre.
Strange Weather Week
It was a very strange week of weather.
On Sunday hail storms pelted the area enveloping some areas in a white blanket.
Then on Monday Fethiye was enveloped in a dust cloud that had travelled from the Middle East.
The dust reduced visibility and it was reported that some citizens suffered breathing problems as a result.
By the end of the week spring like weather arrived with clear blue skies and temperatures nudging 20 degrees centigrade.
Council Meets for Last Time Before the Elections
Fethiye councillors had their final meeting before the March 30th local elections last week.
Councillors made various speeches setting out the achievements of the current administration and their hopes for the future.
Election fever has now gripped the villages and towns around the area as with the various political parties battle it out for those important votes.
FIG ShopSprings into the New Season
The FIG charity shop reopened on Saturday after a few days closure to bring in the new seasons lines.
Shop Manageress Helen Acar said “Thanks everyone who came to the FIG shop Open Day, to all the shoppers and wonderful volunteers.
We totally surpassed ourselves in terms of excellent summer stock and with sales.
It was a really fun day and the homemade cakes and coffee were a real bonus.”
The next FIG event is on Tuesday 11th March when they will hold a Craft Fair next to the Address Bar between 11 and 4.
The team were due to play Karsiyaka away on Sunday.

The score sheet for the 27 games played to date is 6 wins, 8 draws and 13 lost.
The Turkish currency ended the week at 3.69 TL to the British Pound almost unchanged compared with a week earlier at 3.70 TL.
Legendary Turkish Honesty
A Taiwanese tourist was reunited with his lost wallet last week thanks to the Fethiye Police.
The tourist lost his wallet on a dolmus when he was taking a transfer to his hotel.
The wallet was handed in and the police were soon on the case.
They tracked down the 58 year old tourist at his hotel and reunited him with his wallet and the 2,300 TL cash that was in it.
Great detective work and another happy tourist.
