Mountain Rescue Lay Food For Wild Animals
Babadag Mountain, Fethiye
Local mountain rescue team ACUTE were featured in the local press this week walking through the snow on top of Babadag mountain.
But they were not carrying out a rescue.
Instead they were setting out food for wild animals.
Their leader was quoted as saying the scarcity of food during these cold winter months threatens our natural wildlife and can force it to come into towns and villages. He hopes that by laying out food it would help preserve the wildlife.
The ACUTE team will be doing a similar exercise at Seki Erendag next week.
The Circle of Life
Statistics from the registration service in Fethiye were published last week.
There were 2,811 births and 979 deaths.
People with a residence permit are recorded as ‘Foreigners’ and are recorded separately. There were 4 births and 36 deaths.
The number of Turkish men marrying foreign women in Fethiye fell by 8 percent last year it was reported with 47 weddings in 2013. Of those English, German, Russian, Romanian and Austrian brides made up the top 5 nationalities getting hitched to Turkish men.
But only two Turkish women were recorded marrying foreign men.
Foreigners marrying in Fethiye totalled 355 down from 405 the previous year.
Safety at Work
A construction worker fell from a third floor building in the Tasyaka area of Fethiye.
He was taken to Fethiye State Hospital for treatment.
Police Stats Published
And it was the turn of the Fethiye Police to publish their figures last week.
The traffic police stopped 30,715 vehicles, issued 2.6 million TL of fines,
30,000 drivers received fines totalling 2.6 million TL
327 drink drivers were reported.
There were 967 recorded traffic accidents and 6 fatalities and 664 injuries.
The Police recorded 546 thefts, a 23 per cent reduction compared with 2012. Of the 546′ 247 were from homes and 6 from pickpocketing.
The roof of an apartment block in the Tashyaka area of Fethiye caught fire.
Neighbours noticed smoke rising from the roof and called the Fire Service who used their fire truck latter to access the roof and extinguish the fire.
An investigation is underway to confirm the exact reason for the blaze.
There were no league games played last week.

FethiyeSpor are now 17th out of the 19 teams in the PTT1 League with 14 points after 18 matches. The score sheet for the 18 games played to date is 3 wins, 5 draws and 10 lost.
The Turkish Lira ended the week at 3.57 TL to the British Pound. Last week it was 3.58 TL.
Laid to Rest
The press reported that William Donald Van Duren was laid to rest in Fethiye cemetery last week.
The retired prison officer moved to Fethiye 7 years ago to live in his villa in the Foca area.
