Works began yesterday to demolish the Fethiye Chamber of Commerce building in central Fethiye.

The building, located on the main road in the Paspatur area of Fethiye, was constructed in 1963.

It is being demolished because it failed a seismic test and therefore would not be safe in the event of an earthquake.

The fire service were on hand yesterday to reduce the dust caused by the works.

The road had to be closed for a time as the works progressed.

Plans have been approved to erect a new earthquake resistant building in its place.
