British Man Found Dead
The local press reported that a 66 year old British man who lived alone was found dead on the balcony of his property in the Foca district of Fethiye on Saturday evening.
Neighbours raised the alarm and police and medical teams attended.
The local press named the man as William Duren and said he had been living in the property for the last 8 years.
The body has been sent to the coroner.
The local press reported about Christmas celebrations in Fethiye and they lamented the lack of international flights that meant that visitors numbers were down.
They also visited the Nil Bar in Calis on Christmas Day to watch the ‘foreigners’ celebrating.
New Year Celebration Preparations Underway
The Christian Christmas holiday is low key affair outside of the British expat community but the New Year celebrations are not.
Hotels up and down the coast are preparing for an influx of New Year holiday makers who plan to welcome in 2014.
Many towns are also planning New Year eve events and Marmaris public celebrations will take place in the town square with DJ’s and other entertainment until well after midnight.
Jail Sentence for Speedboat Driver

A man who drove a speedboat that was involved in a fatal collision with a swimmer off Red Island on 12 August 2013 was sentenced to 3 years in prison last week.
Babadag Track to Open Soon

We reported a few weeks ago about planned works to improve the roads to the various paragliding launch sites on the Babadag mountain.
Last week the Trade Chamber Chairman Akif Arıcan gave an update to the local press on the works. He was quoted as saying that the road to the 800m launch site will open in the next few days followed by the road to the 1,200m launch site in early 2014.
An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0 occurred on Saturday afternoon at 15:31 UTC. The quake was centred under the sea between Antalya and Cyprus but could be felt in Fethiye.
Further aftershocks continued but at lower magnitudes into the evening.
Winter storms hit the County on Saturday. Bodrum suffered heavy rain, strong winds and localised flooding.
It was a 1-1 draw in the Boluspor v Fethiyespor held on 22 December 2013.

FethiyeSpor are now 17th out of the 19 teams in the PTT1 League with 13 points after 17 matches. The score sheet for the 17 games played to date is 3 wins, 4 draws and 10 lost.
The Turkish Lira ended the week at an all time low of 3.55TL to the British Pound. Last week it was 3.41 TL. One Turkish Lira is now worth 28 Pence.
Work that began a few weeks ago to built covers over seating at the Fethiyespor stadium are now almost complete.
The works are expected to cost around 530,000 TL.
Spectators can now enjoy shade when they watch day time matches and shelter from rain at other times.
