North Wind Brings Sub Zero Temperatures To The Area
A north wind ripped over the area this week causing temperatures to plummet.
The mercury was close to zero even at sea level.
That prompted tomato growers to heat their greenhouses to protect their crops from crop killing frost.
At at sea winds reached almost 50 knots and caused some disruption to shipping and fishing.
On land the strong winds caused a bit of damage to property with only a few incidents reported including a shed roof that blew off.
Snow fell at higher altitudes and around Mugla on Saturday.
The winds finally subsided on Thursday but the single digit temperatures continued through to Saturday and temperatures were not expected to return to their seasonal norms until this week.
A midi bus crashed on the Yayla road on its way from Antalya to Fethiye at around 9pm on Thursday evening.
Eight people were injured in the incident including the driver, six Turkish nationals and a person named Christine Jenkinson it was reported.
The bus operated under the Fethiye Seyahat line was reported to have rolled as the result of a tyre blow out.
Emergency teams battled in the freezing conditions to administer first aid and transport the injured to hospital in Fethiye.
The Police are investigating the incident.
The driver of a lorry carrying cleaning supplied died on the same stretch of road when his vehicle left the road near the village of Sariyer, Seydikemer.
Fethiye House Volunteers Doing Good
Volunteers from the Fethiye House were pictured in the local press last week delivering an electric wheelchair to an 18-year-old disabled man.
His family accompanied him to the event and said that this will really help him to get out and about around Fethiye.
The is second such chair to have been donated by the volunteers in as many weeks.
Food Hygiene Visits Increased
Officers from the Environmental Health Department of Fethiye Council were featured in the local press this week carrying out food hygiene checks at local food establishments.
They focused their attention on the use of cooking oils.
A council official was quoted as saying that cooking oils can only be used a certain number of times before they need changing.
The strict control on the use of cooking oils is designed to reduce the harmful effects that the old can create such as stomach upsets.
Officials use an electronic device to measure the quality of the oil.
Citizens were also reminded that if they have any waste oil that the council can collect it.
The waste oil should be put in a plastic bottle or a jar and deposited outside for collection.
Fethiyespor brought their winning streak to three when they beat Adana Demirspor at home 2-1.

The Turkish Lira ended the week down 1 Kurus at 3.32 TL to the British Pound.
