The festive season starts early on Sunday 8 December when the 7th Çalış Christmas Fair takes place and this year’s fair promises to be the biggest and best ever.
Over 170 stalls have booked for this year’s event so the fair will be bustling and brimming with bargains. The organisers, Çalış Children’s Charity are hoping for a record turnout – and good weather!
The colourful traditional festive fair which attracts stallholders and visitors by the coach-load from all over the Mugla area, takes place along in and around the restaurant’s on Çalış seafront from 11.00 am to 5.00 pm
As well as an abundance of stalls selling traditional Christmas decorations, tree ornaments, garlands, candles, cards, cakes, preserves, chutneys, pickles and a myriad of other Christmas items there will be lots of craft stalls.
Some of the more unusual items on sale at the fair will include driftwood boat art, wrought iron gifts, handmade flowers, decoupage, stained glass, wooden toys and carvings, hand made soaps, felt items, paper craft butterflies, leather jewellery and stone garden ornaments as well as all styles of paintings and hand-made and knitted garments.
Some of the stalls are coming from as far away as Kas, Kalkan and Marmaris.
There will also be a number of charity stalls from across the area raising money for various good causes.
Fair organisers, the 3C’s whose charity stalls will all be located next to Santa’s winter wonderland grotto will not only be running a huge tombola but will be selling delicious home-made cakes and savouries, hand knitted items, crafts and gifts including a lovely selection of beautiful glass paperweights.
They will also be raffling a magnificent Christmas hamper and imported spirits and festive fare from the UK so make sure you buy some tickets.
Welcome to Father Christmas
For the youngsters (and a lot of the adults!) the highlight of the day will be at 1.00 when Father Christmas arrives in his decorated sleigh along with his elf, fairy and other character helpers.
Santa will then take up residence in his grotto and children can visit him and receive a present for a small charge.
The 3C’s Father Christmas has a very hectic schedule as not only is he preparing for the fair but he is also visiting some of the local schools in the run up to Christmas.
You may also get a glimpse of him riding around Çalış and Fethiye on the Saturday afternoon, before the Christmas Fair.
Çalış Christmas Fair will be a great family day out. It is an ideal place to pick up Christmas presents as well as unusual little stocking fillers and to stock up on your Christmas food goodies as well as a great chance to meet friends and get into the festive spirit (the bar and restaurant owners will be more than happy to oblige!!!!)
All money raised from the stall fees (net of table and tarpaulin costs) along with sales from the 3C’s charity stalls will go towards the Çalış Children’s Charity, helping children in the local area.
