A record breaking net amount of 87,374 TL, over 12,000 TL more than last year was raised by the 3C’s during their 2013 fundraising year.

This announcement was made by 3C’s outgoing Chairman Peter Clark when the Çalış based children’s charity held its Annual General Meeting recently.

Summing up the year, Peter said “What a great year it has been. A record amount of money raised, a record amount of money spent and a record amount of feel good factor, having seen the youngsters and some of the amazing students that we have helped.

However, none of this could happen without the dedication, support, and time given, from our tremendously hard-working committee, volunteers and our loyal supporters”.

Continuing he said “One of the major things that has pleased me personally is our shift in emphasis from providing such things as air con units, projectors etc. for schools, to helping really deserving, disadvantaged youngsters and their families to really make a difference to their lives.

What is more rewarding than to give a child a chance to hear music, birds singing, their parents talking and eventually a chance to learn to speak?”

Resources and Spend

During the year, the children’s charity spent 66,000 TL on children’s projects. A further 34,000 TL has been allocated against ongoing projects and commitments.

These projects and commitments have included providing hearing aids for several youngsters, a special sonic ear for one young girl, tilt tables and wheelchairs for a local rehabilitation centre, 10 bursaries (increased to 15 in 2014) to allow students to attend university who would otherwise be unable to afford to do so.

School uniforms for children from poor families, ongoing funding to provide a welfare assistant to take care of the personal hygiene needs of disabled youngsters at a local disabled unit, providing playground equipment for several village schools, specialist educational toys for a school’s disabled unit, replacement windows for a village school and much needed equipment, books and educational toys for several other village schools.

The charity has also strongly supported the new Fethiye Love Houses initiative, which provides permanent homes for small groups of orphans and other children whose parents are unable to look after them, by providing nearly 10,000 TL of equipment and toys.

They also took these youngsters on a memorable boat trip in the summer.

The charity has committed to helping this worthwhile initiative further in 2014.
