Bottles and cans of wine, beer and spirits sold in Turkey will soon include warning labels similar to those on cigarette packages.
“Alcohol is not your friend” is the phrase that will stand out on the new labelling requirement.
The labels are the result of new legislation that were passed into law in May this year that restricts the sale and advertising of alcohol.
They will also indicate that only people over the age of 18 can consume alcohol and warn pregnant women and drivers not to drink.
Drinks companies have 10 months to comply with the new regulations.
The labelling laws bring Turkey into line with other responsible countries around the world including the UK that display warning messages on bottles and cans containing alcoholic drinks.
In fact the UK goes one stage further by also advising on safe alcohol consumption limits which Turkey has not adopted for its labelling.
