Celebrity Thief Apprehended
A person who was suspected of stealing items from the yachts of the rich and famous around Gocek, Fethiye was arrested by police last week. COPYRIGHT www.fethiyetimes.com
A search of the suspects’ house found various items including gold bracelets, expensive wrist watches and a large number of electronic devices.
The investigation continues and the case has been referred to the court.
Funeral of Popular Ciflik Resident
The funeral of Barry John McCarter took place in Ciftlik cemetery last week.
Local news reported that sadly he died before he could attend his 75th birthday party.
Ciftlik Cemetery Extended for Foreign Burials
The Mayor of Ciftlik, who attended the funeral of John McCarter, announced that the Ciftlik municipal cemetery area especially for foreigners (non-muslim) has been expanded.
House Destroyed by Fire
Fire crews were called to a house fire last week.
The owner had been burning rubbish in the fire place when the chimney caught fire.
The fire spread to the roof which subsequently collapsed
Luckily no one was injured. The family are now repairing the damage.
Wreck Work Continues
Fethiye Bay, Fethiye
The ship ‘Casino Fiorita’ sank 27 years ago in the bay of Fethiye. Work continued last week to remove fuel from the decaying fuel tanks.
A specialist company has been contracted to remove 4 tons of fuel from the sunken vessel.
Last week 2.5 tonnes of the fuel was safely removed.
Work is continuing and should be completed soon.
Summer Heat Wave Arrives
Summer arrived with a heat-wave and temperatures topped 39 degrees centigrade last week.
According to the local press the streets were deserted as people headed for the beaches and coves to cool down, chill out and have an afternoon snooze.
