The town square is finished and in use, recently we updated you on progress with part of the extension to the existing promenade, so the theatre restoration seemed also ready for an update.
The 4.5 million TL project to restore the antique theatre in Fethiye started during October 2012. The picture below shows the site after a few weeks of work.
Roll forward to January 2013 and we can see some progress has been made.
As readers who live in/visit Karagözler will know, the road has been rerouted so that it now is alongside the sea leaving the old road to be subsumed within the new restored theatre area.
Our photo shows the new road which diverges from the old one at the ‘palm tree roundabout’ and rejoins the original route at the Tourist Information office.
And here’s what the theatre looked like at the end of January with the old road now part of its ‘grounds’.
Unfortunately there was no-one working on site when we visited, so no chance of getting answers to our questions. It’s clear the work is currently focusing on the area you can see in the image above as nothing much has changed within the actual theatre itself as you can see from the third photo below.
Yet again it’s a ‘watch this space’, as we will try to keep you up to date as the work progresses
