This weeks round up of the local news from Fethiye, Oludeniz, Hisaronu and area includes Fethiyespor – Women’s Supporters Group formed, tourism plan launched and more in our round up of the pre Christmas local news.
Fethiyespor – Women’s Supporters Group Formed
We don’t often write about the local football club, Fethiyespor, but this one was not to be missed.
It seems a Women’s Supporters Group has been formed and at the most recent match the members gave out small dishes of aşure to all the people attending the match.
Can you imagine that at a British football match?
Maybe if we substitute sausage rolls for aşure.
Tourism Plan Launched
Meanwhile the Governor of Muğla, Fatih Şahin, gave a speech at a Tourism Conference in Ankara in which he laid out his vision for ‘cultural tourism’ in the province.
He is going to take people away from the beaches and all-inclusive resorts and introduce them to the wealth of history and culture that exists in the province.
Whilst we totally agree with his vision in theory, we think there are a lot of practical problems yet to be overcome.
Treasure Hunters Arrested
Following ‘information received’ the Jandarma seized and searched the car of a man who lives in Çiftlik and found historical artefacts.
The goods: a stone statue, several small metal statuettes and a brass chalice; were taken to Fethiye Museum for indentification and the man was arrested.
Quiet week for local news so we’ll end by wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and we’ll be back next week with the final news snippets of 2012.
