The festive season starts early on Sunday 9th December 2012 when the 6th Çalış Christmas Fair takes place.
This year’s fair promises to be the biggest and best ever, and with 170 confirmed stall bookings, the fair will be bustling and brimming with bargains and the organisers, Çalış Children’s Charity are hoping for a record turnout.
The colourful traditional festive fair which attracts stallholders and visitors by the coach-load from all over the Mugla area, takes place along in and around the restaurant’s on Çalış seafront, Fethiye from 11.00 am to 5.00 pm.
Great Variety of Things to Buy
As well as an abundance of stalls selling traditional Christmas decorations, tree ornaments, candles, cards, cakes, preserves, chutneys, pickles and a myriad of other Christmas items there will be lots of craft stalls. Some of the more unusual items on sale at the fair will include wrought iron gifts, hand made flowers, decoupage, stained glass, wooden toys and carvings, hand made soaps, felt items, paper craft butterflies, leather jewellery and stone garden ornaments as well as all styles of paintings and hand-made and knitted garments. There will even be a German BBQ, mulled wine and hot chestnuts.
Charity Stalls Too
There will also be a number of charity stalls from across the area raising money for various good causes. Fair organisers, the 3C’s whose charity stalls will all be located next to Santa’s winter wonderland grotto will not only be running a huge tombola but will be selling delicious home-made cakes and savouries, hand knitted items, crafts and gifts and will be raffling a magnificent Christmas hamper of imported spirits and festive fare from the UK so make sure you buy some tickets. They will also have “hook a Christmas duck” and “Find Santa’s Treasure” games for the children.
At 12.00 noon visitors to the fair will be treated to a yuletide modern dance display by the very popular Angels of Fethiye Sports Club dance troupe who will be “rocking around the Christmas tree” to a selection of all time festive hits. The display will take place on the promenade in front of Santa’s grotto.
For the youngsters (and a lot of the adults!) the highlight of the day will be at 1.00 when Father Christmas arrives in his decorated sleigh along with his elf, fairy and snowman helpers and this year two famous Walt Disney favourites will also be getting in on the act! Santa will then take up residence in his grotto and children can visit him and receive a present for a small charge.
Father Christmas has a very hectic schedule as not only is he preparing for the fair but he is visiting nursery classes at some of the local schools and he will be greeting young shoppers at the new Çalış Kipa supermarket on Saturday 8th December from 11.00am until 2.00pm so make sure you time your weekly shopping trip to coincide with his visit. Also you may get a glimpse of him riding around Çalış and Fethiye on Saturday afternoon.
Çalış Christmas Fair will be a great family day out. It is an ideal place to pick up Christmas presents as well as unusual little stocking fillers and to stock up on your Christmas food goodies as well as a great chance to meet friends and get into the festive spirit (the bar and restaurant owners will be more than happy to oblige!!!!).
All money raised from the stall fees (net of table and tarpaulin hire) along with sales from the 3C’s charity stalls will go towards the Çalış Children’s Charity, helping children in the local area.
