A special event will take place on 12th October about local history in English and Turkish.

This year Ölüdeniz is holding its 4th Literature Festival and, whilst almost all the participants are Turkish authors, writers and poets, there is one event that will be at least partially in English and you may wish to attend.

On 12th October, 17.00 – 19.00, there is to be a panel discussion at Fethiye Cultural Centre with Dr. Alan Greaves of Liverpool University on the panel.

Alan has been excavating a settlement mound at Çaltılar on the yayla road to Antalya for several summers now, and speaks Turkish.

He will talk about the ‘Lycian Era and earlier pre-historic settlement’ and other speakers include a professor from Akdeniz University in Antalya and three local writers.

Alan will deliver his talk in both Turkish and English, so it should be an interesting event for all readers curious about the local history of this fascinating region in which we live.

We don’t know whether or not the other participants will also speak in both languages, but hope to see lots of you at the Cultural Centre on the evening of the 12th October.
