A staggering 14,500 TL was raised in just one night at the recent 3c’s charity auction beating all previous records for the event by a whopping 5,000 TL.
The bumper fundraiser, which was the final event of the Çalış Carnival Week activities, was the fifth to be organized by Çalış Children’s Charity group, the 3C’s.
The annual event is the premier fundraising event of the charity’s year and takes weeks of planning and all proceeds go directly to help the children in the local area.
This years marathon five hour event which took place on Çalış seafront, Fethiye attracted hundreds of eager bidders as well as it’s own marathon runner.
An hour into the event, local runner Murat Askin pounded his way up to the auctioneer’s podium after completing a sponsored run from Oludeniz to Çalış seafront, Fethiye also on behalf of the children.
His valiant efforts raised a further 570 TL in sponsorship and donations swelling the amount raised on the night to over 15,000TL.
He then even auctioned the shirt off his back for a further 20TL!
This year a record 160 “promises” were pledged for the auction ranging from full health checks at the Esnaf hospital, 2,000 TL of cosmetic dental work courtesy of the Fethiye Cosmetic and Dental Centre, an All Inclusive day pass for 2 people at Majesty Club Tuana, Yaniklar, 2 Discover Scuba Dive days at Lykia World Dive Centre, a days yacht sailing for 2 people courtesy of Gocek Sea School, dinner, bed and breakfast at both the Sundial and Bostans Hotel and one nights bed and breakfast in the honeymoon rooftop suite at the Delta hotel.
Sports fans could bid on an authentic signed “Saints” Northampton Rugby ball signed by the current squad and their England and international players as well as a football signed by the Glasgow Rangers first team.
In addition there were a pair of first class return UK rail tickets, a UK TV package, loads of jewellery, watches, day trips, paintings, clothing, designer sunglasses, antiques, electrical and household goods, Turkish bath and spa treatments, restaurant meals, cocktails, car rental, bicycles, ex- pat goodies and English chocolate.
Auctioneer extraordinaire, George Rimmer, rattled through the lots and there was a bidding frenzy for many of the more popular items with internet commission bids received from UK on many of the items.
Special Lots for Bozalan School Project
Several lots were being auctioned specifically for the Bozalan School project which is a joint project funded by Calis Beach Forum and the 3C’s.
