The powerful earthquakes that rocked Oludeniz, Fethiye and surrounding areas yesterday caused panic and anxiety as well as rock falls on the Babadag mountain that towers over the area.
As previously reported, rockfalls on both the north and south sides of Babadağ sent up large dust clouds which were visible for several minutes.
One professional paragliding pilot, who was in the air with a British tandem passenger, saw the dust clouds and started taking pictures.
It was only when they landed that they discovered the cause had been an earthquake.
Meanwhile the local press reported that many people, who were concerned about further aftershocks, chose to spend last night in the relative safety of their gardens, in school playgrounds or other open public spaces, or on the beach.
Local press refer repeatedly to the panic and anxiety they encountered when interviewing residents.
