Tom Kelly who set out from Wigan, England to raise money for a cancer charity will end his epic journey in Fethiye this Friday to a warm welcome.
He started in England and reached Turkey on 13 May 2012 entering the Turkey through Edirne.
From there he has cycled via Kesan, Eceabat, Canakkale, Ayvalik, Izmir finally reaching Mugla.
Fethiye to Welcome Tom this Friday 25 May
At 14.00 Members of Fethiye Bicycle Club and Motorcycle Traffic Police will wait for Tom on the new Calis road at the Ciftlik junction.
Can cycle riders who intend to take part please contact FETAV so the police can be told what numbers to expect.
Along the new Calis road, to the old dolphin roundabout then on past the State Hospital and Court building, Tansas and Migros turning right at the lights and straight into town.
Arrival at 15.00 at the Sehit Fehit Bey statue on the Kordon near the Fethiye House where there will be an official reception organised by Fethiye Council and Mugla Council, with the Honorary British Consul, Mustafa Sikman, and representatives of FIG and FETAV – plus everyone who has cycled in from Ciftlik alongside Tom.
Please try to come to this reception, or stand by the road at some point on the route to cheer Tom on for the final part of his journey.
Who Is Tom?
Raising Funds for Wigan and Leigh Hospice and Fethiye International Group 61 year old Tom likes adventure and loves a challenge.
When he was 18, he hitch-hiked around Europe, including Italy, Greece, France and Spain.
Tom says, “My experiences were great for character building and broadening my outlook on life, however, like many others, getting married and having children, changes priorities.”.
Tom has now got the wanderlust again for a tour of Europe, beginning in sunny Wigan, and culminating in Fethiye.
His journey this time was via Rotterdam, the Rhine Valley, Holland, Germany, Bavaria, the Danube, Austria, Hungary, Romania, the Black Sea, Northern Turkey and finishing at his apartment in Çaliş after an entry into Fethiye town centre.
He adds, “Proceeds from sponsorship will be equally divided between Wigan & Leigh Hospice and Fethiye International Group”.
