A free concert in memory of Benyamin Sönmez, an internationally acclaimed cellist, will be held at the Fethiye Cultural Centre (FKM) next Monday.

Benyamin Sönmez was an internationally acclaimed cellist who died last November, aged 28, and is buried in Fethiye where his family originated.

His older brother Mehmet, who plays the contrabass in Turkey’s Presidential Symphony Orchestra, will be one of several classical musicians who will speak about Benyamin, and play in his memory, at the concert to be held in the Cultural Centre on Monday evening.

The concert starts at 8pm, entry is free and, while there will be a number of speeches in Turkish, there should also be some fine classical music.
