Fethiye Poppy Appeal Raised 800TL

The Fethiye representative for the Royal British Legion, Colin Brown, thanks all those who supported Remembrance Day.

Remembrance Day is normally only marked in the UK and former commonwealth countries. However, with a growing British expat population the Turkish town of Fethiye in South West Turkey marked the important day with a low key event.

The Fethiye Crown Green Bowling Club located in Calis was the scene for the Royal British Legion Challenge Cup on Remembrance Sunday.

The last post was performed by Kingsley to mark 2 minutes silence at 13:00 Turkish time, 11:00 UK time. It was a very moving time for everyone who was there.

The cup winner was Rob Mckernan and the cup was presented by Colin Brown (ME) – see picture.

The event raised 450 TL

Colin said:

“A big thank you also goes out to the local expat community bought poppies and contributed 880 TL. The sum raised is amazing considering permission was only received from the authorities a week before the remembrance Sunday and distribution was therefore limited. Thank you also to the 3c’s for helping us in this matter.”

He continued:

“Next year I will be getting 25 boxes of poppies from the Royal British Legion for distribution and I have a number of people who want to help.”
