Eye Witness to Ölüdeniz Paragliding Accident

A reader witnesses a paragilders emergency landing into the sea off Ölüdeniz [In Pictures].

On Monday 19th September around 2pm we were driving back to Ölüdeniz from Faralya and, just as we reached high point on road beyond Lycia World, we saw a paraglider descending slowly into the sea suspended from his emergency parachute.

The emergency ‘chute is the white thing in the photograph (courtesy of Denis Robb).

The pilot’s main paraglide sail was twisting in the air and clearly only attached at one end – hence the emergency descent.

As soon as the pilot hit the water a rescue power boat set off from the beach and picked up the pilot and his chutes.

One paragliding incident that had a happy ending.
