We continue our round up of the week’s local news from the Fethiye area.

A Slow News Week

It has been a really slow week for news in Fethiye so that local press have been reduced to reporting such items as ‘the tourism season in Ölüdeniz will start on 1st May’ – which we all knew anyway.

Not to mention headlines like ‘early tourists sun bathing on beach in Fethiye’ – seems they have yet to understand the concept of Easter school holidays.

Fatal Car Crash

At the end of the week there was a dreadful car crash just after midnight near Kemer, when two cars collided head on, killing one of the drivers and the front passenger in the other car.

The other driver plus his wife and child were treated at the Fethiye State Hospital for minor injuries.

The Tourist Season Starts

National Tourism Week began on Friday and the Governor of Fethiye opened the proceedings with a speech in which he stated

“We hope to have 3 million tourists in Fethiye this year and 10 million across Muğla as a whole”.

Trash Bash to Clear Bays

To mark Tourism Week students from the Vocational College cleaned up rubbish from Boncuklu Bay and all around the shores of Chevalier Island.

The article reporting this activity pointed out that participants wore gloves – no getting your hands dirty here then.
