Le Boréal Mega-Yacht Visits Fethiye

The exclusive French flagged Mega-Yacht "Le Boréal" dropped anchor in Fethiye bay on Tuesday.

The exclusive French flagged Mega-Yacht "Le Boréal" dropped anchor in Fethiye bay, Turkey on Tuesday 31 August 2010

The luxurious ship, that has only 132 cabins, transferred its passengers to Fethiye for a range of activities and tours via its own tenders.

Fethiye has long been envious of Marmaris and the visits it receives from cruise ships.

But with no natural deep water jetty visiting cruise ships need to anchor in the bay and that deters many ships from visiting.

Why? Because llarge cruise ships have hundreds of passengers and they have to be transferred by tender to the shore adding time and expense to their operations.

Fethiye needs a major investment to build the facilities suitable for such large ships to come along side.

However, that investment seems to be in place as the Fethiye local authorities plan to redevelop the harbour this winter.

If the developments are successful Fethiye could soon become a regular stop for all those floating hotels that tour the Med and bring in so much tourist income to the local economy.
