A record breaking sum of 27,500 TL has been raised by the Çalış Carnival during 2010 – and it will all go to help local children.

The Carnival, which is now in its third year, organizes the colourful annual Carnival and concert as well as a number of fundraising social events throughout the year.

The carnival has already disbursed 50,000 TL from its first two years of fund raising and this year’s record breaking sum brings the cumulative sum to 77,500 TL.

Carnival Chair Peter Clark said,

“We are really pleased with the final figure raised, particularly as it is a record breaking sum in a year of economic recession. We would like to thank everybody who has supported us throughout the year and I personally would like to thank every member of the committee for all their hard work”.

The committee will continue to support 10 students though university during 2010/2011 and a meeting will take place in September to allocate the rest of the funds raised.

The Carnival committee has now disbanded for the summer holidays and will regroup in September to make plans and decisions for the coming year.

If you wish to see where the funds raised from the previous 2009 Carnival were spent please look at the committee’s annual report and accounts published in both English and Turkish on the carnival website www.caliscarnival.com.
