The Çalış Carnival Committee launched their new flag on Saturday at the Sultan Aqua Park in Çalış, Fethiye.

The Çalış Carnival is now in its third year. The 2009 Carnival events raised over 24,000 Turkish Lira (Over 10,000 GBP) for local children’s charities.

But the Carnival Committee members, keen to carry on raising the profile of the ground breaking event, decided they needed a flag to help promote the popular event.

After months of deliberations, discussions and feedback from Carnival supporters the new flag was unveiled on Saturday afternoon at the Sultan Aqua Park in Çalış.

The flag depicts the familiar view visitors to Çalış Beach will have seen if standing on the beach or the promenade. It shows Red Island, the sun and a yacht passing by.

The rich colours are typically Mediterranean using turquoise blue and a deep orange for the setting sun.

The flag and bunting will adorn the sea front when the Carnival takes place this 29th and 30th May 2010.

Peter Clark chair of the Çalış Carnival said:

“Thank you to all the people who helped to design the new flag. We’ve received so many good ideas and designs. Standing here today under the warm spring sunshine the design we choose really does look fantastic and I am hopeful that Çalış may also adopt this as their new emblem.”

“The flag design has also been used to create new window stickers, car stickers and bunting to help spread the word about the Çalış Carnival.”

The Committee also showcased their new Çalış Carnival polo shirts and baseball caps at the event.
