In an exclusive interview with Fethiye Times yesterday the area governor of the Mugla county of Turkey confirmed that the Seki Ski resort near the town of Fethiye is operational.

The governor, Dr Ahmet Altiparmak, confirmed that the ski lift and cafe are operational at the new Eren Mountain ski resort near the town of Seki, Fethiye.

He said “All we are now waiting for is sufficient snow for skiers and other snow enthusiasts to get on the piste.”

“A small amount of snow did fall earlier this week but it’s not enough for the winter fun to begin just yet.” he added.

Popular weather website now lists the Eren Mountain ski resort on their site here so you can check the conditions for yourself (but not the snow depth unfortunately).

So get your skis, goggles and salopettes ready for some winter snow action.

If you don’t have any don’t worry, the local outdoor shop in Fethiye will begin stocking them soon.

And if you’re brave maybe you can actually prove the great marketing line we’ve all heard; to ski in the morning and swim in the afternoon.

So good news for winters sports enthusiasts and hopefully this is a firm step to all year round tourism for Fethiye.

Following the publication of this article a couple of Fethiye Times readers and keen skiers visited the new site to find it is not operational. Builders were working on the cafe and the posts for the ski lift were still to be erected.

For the record they also confirmed it takes 1 hour and 15 minutes to drive to the ski centre from Fethiye and it is poorly signed.
