So you wanna be a record breaker? Join the fun next Saturday in Fethiye and maybe get in the GBR.

Next Saturday, 19th May, is Youth and Sport Bayram and this year our mayor has decided it shall be marked by a mega concert in the Tuesday Marketplace during which an attempt will be made to enter the Guinness Book of Records (GBR).

It is hoped that 100,000 people will sing the Turkish National Anthem and thus get an entry in the book.  We at Fethiye Times shall certainly be there even if we may not know all the words to the anthem. We shall attend if only to see how on earth they are going to count the number of people singing.

The whole event starts at 5.30pm with a radio DJ from Super FM; there are fireworks at 8.30 and then a programme of Turkish chart stars until after midnight.  Despite exhaustive searching we do not yet know at exactly what time the record attempt will be made – maybe there isn’t a time as it depends so much on attendance.  However, Fethiye Times will do its best to publish the time as soon as possible so that interested readers can attend just for the record attempt.

Meanwhile if you’d like to see the full programme go fethiyede19mayis.com it’s all in Turkish but just click the ‘Program’ button and there are pictures of the performers.
