Kaya Koy old Greek church was the venue for a very well attended carol sing-a-long and present giving event on Christmas Eve.

Over 70 people attended the event organised by local ex-pat resident John Laughland. The first part of the event took part in the historic old Greek lower church. A band stood at the front of the church and played all our favourite carols. The singers, who were in very good voice, held candles. It was such a festive atmosphere.

As it was such a lovely sunny day the event then moved to the outside courtyard where more carols were sung. The location is truly unique and singing carols against the backdrop of the old village will be a memory that will stay with many for some time.

The local children were clearly excited by the whole event and marvelled at the brightly decorated Christmas tree and food and drink on offer in the buffet outside. Christmas and the way we celebrate it is a fairly new thing here in Turkey so the tinsel and glitter are very exciting for them.

The highlight of the event was the visit by Father Christmas – or Noel Baba as he known in Turkey. Father Christmas led one of his reindeer complete with antlers – well a donkey but the effect was very good – through the old street and up to the church courtyard. It carried two large sacks of the gifts which had been generously provided by local ex-pat residents.

{mosimage} When they got to the church gates and the children saw him they all shouted ‘Noel Baba!’
, ‘Noel Baba!’. The presents were then handed out to the eager  kids. It was a lovely sight!

Another really special day in the life of Fethiye.

Merry Christmas everyone!
