Construction ban in holiday areas

The Mugla Governors office has released a notice regarding the construction works prohibition which is effective in touristic areas during the tourism season.

In the notice sent by the Mugla Governorship to local Council and Public offices it asked the relevant authorities to ensure that builders, developers, construction companies and anyone else engaged in construction works 'comply completely' with the ‘construction prohibition period'. The prohibition period is determined each year and agreed upon in a decision made by the ‘Culture, Tourism and Environment City Coordination Committee’.

In the notice signed by the Mugla Governor, Temel Kocaklar, it stated that in some areas the agreed construction prohibition period of 15 May – 15 October 2006 is not being complied with and some construction activities are still continuing.
The local Turkish press have recently reported that in previous years the same kind of 'construction prohibition period' has been ignored by many developers and builders and in some instances continuing building works have led to cancellation of reservations by tour operators and their agents.

The local authorities warn that people not complying with the prohibition notice and the decisions of the ‘Culture, Tourism and Environment City Coordination Committee’ in this respect could have legal procedures taken against them.
