The security forces in Fethiye are on high alert for the start of the tourist season.
The security forces are on high alert in and around Fethiye for the start of the tourism season. The Jandarma and Police are carrying out ID and vehicle checks on all the main routes including the road into Ovacik which provides access to the popular resorts of Hisaronu and Oludeniz. Road side checks have also been carried out on the main road to Kalkan/Kas and Dalaman.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office continue to warn that:
“There is a high threat from terrorism in Turkey. We believe that international terrorist groups, as well as indigenous ones, are currently active in Turkey. Attacks in public places, including in tourist areas, could well occur.”
Should you be stopped please make sure you have your passport ready for inspection and, if you are driving, your vehicle papers. It is the law in Turkey that all citizens and visitors must carry their primary ID with them. Failure to do so can result in a fine or considerable inconvenience. Vehicle drivers are also required to carry their license and vehicle papers when they are driving.
Although you might find the regular checks a pain please remember that they are doing it to protect us from the real acts of terrorism that exist.
