New flight company steps in to take up XL.com slack

Meridian Aviation trading as Kiss Flights.com plans to fly to Dalaman, Turkey in 2009 taking up where XL left off.

The new flight-only company has established a website to start selling to 11 destinations next summer.

Described by itself as a "dynamic travel company", the firm has been set up by Gatwick-based aviation broking firm Meridian Aviation.

Kiss is advertising ATOL bonding protection on its website and plans to fly from Gatwick and Manchester to Dalaman, Turkey among other popular destinations.

Interestingly managers of former XL seat-only arm Freedom Flights attended the recent ABTA Travel Convention in Gran Canaria in the guise of Kiss Flights.

Meridian Aviation is acting as the general sales agent for Swedish carrier Viking Airlines, which is due to operate the flights for Kiss using two Boeing 737s.

The company aims to offer a low deposit payment scheme, offering better rates for early bookings.

Let’s hope their business model can stand up better than XL's. If it does the competition created by extra seats along with falling oil prices could see a return to cheap flights so lacking this year.
