Special Sunday

Today is a special day in two ways.

Firstly, this is a Muslim holy day - the Prophet Muhammad's birthday (Mevlid Kandili)

Mosques will light their spires to mark the day, or course, only visible at night.

Your Turkish neighbours may also offer you Asure or Noah’s Pudding, the sweet rich pudding containing many types of ingredients including cereals, raisins and nuts as part of the celebrations.

Secondly, this is International Women’s Day.

This is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future.

Annually on 8 March, thousands of events are held throughout the world to inspire women and celebrate achievements.

A global web of rich and diverse local activities connects women from all around the world ranging from political rallies, business conferences, government activities and networking events through to local women's craft markets, theatric performances, fashion parades and more.

Fethiye will be celebrating the day with an event held at the Fethiye Cultural Centre starting at 1:30pm and all women from any nationality are welcome.

For other local events make sure you listen to the local tannoy system for more information (in Turkish, of course).
