Salute to Sailors

If you were wondering what all the fuss was about last Wednesday, 1st July: laying of wreaths at Atatürk’s statue; swimming and small boat races in the harbour, etc; it was because 1st July is Sailors’ and Seamen’s Day, not one of the most widely recognised official ‘days’ in Turkey’s public calendar, but one that has to be marked in a seafaring town like Fethiye.

Jam Plan But What Are They?

Remember the traffic consultancy we reported several months ago – and then waited for something to happen?

Well at Wednesday’s Council Meeting the plans to alleviate traffic problems in Fethiye were finally unveiled – but so far there are no reports of what is in them, or when anything will change.

The local press have merely reported that the plans were unveiled and discussed.

We shall keep following this one and let you know as soon as changes to the current traffic systems are finally made public.

Last Saturday saw yet another paragliding accident on Babadağ mountain, when a 22-year-old young Turkish woman from Istanbul, a trained paraglider, panicked when her parachute encountered cross winds shortly after take off.

She fell 100m down the mountain breaking several bones.

She’s now in a satisfactory condition in the State Hospital.
