The Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey has now become an annual fixture for Fethiye

and this year, on 29th April, the centre of town will once again be packed

with spectators and cyclists ready for the start of the 4th stage of the race to Marmaris.

Mark Cavendish

Last year the presence of British cyclist, Mark Cavendish,

the former World Champion, who won no less than

four stages in the 2014 TUR., drew the crowds to Fethiye.

Many local expat cycling enthusiasts, as well as holidaymakers, thronged around him

when he appeared just minutes before the race started.

This year he will be competing as part of the Etixx Quickstep team.

A chance for Fethiye’s home grown cyclists

Also, last year, for the first few kilometres,  a young team of Fethiye’s home

grown road cyclists joined in, lead by Julien Romeo Arama.

Arama runs the Fethiye Bisiklet ve Doğa Sporları Kulübü.

On this occasion his young team were only able to accompany the

professionals as far as Çalış; study prevented them from taking more

time out from school but, who knows, they may be tomorrow’s

world class cyclists competing in the tour alongside their heroes!
