It may be a bit corny to quote the famous poem ‘Ode to Autumn’ by John Keats, but this time of year in Fethiye really is a season of mists and mellow fruitfulness.
Certainly compared with northern climes it is still delightfully summer-like in Fethiye even at the end of October and November.
There are wonderful bright mornings and more often than not dramatic sunsets with plenty of warm sunshine in between.
A breath of fresh air
October weather usually includes some dramatic storms but after the dry, dusty heat of the summer months, Mother Nature certainly welcomes a shower or two.
When this happens the smell of the damp earth and pine fills the air. We happen to think that this is one of the best perfumes in the world!
Great beach weather
The beaches are getting emptier but it is often still warm enough to sunbath and the sea is really warm.
With warm temperatures and some rain, this is when foraging is at its best.
It’s better to play safe and buy your mushrooms from the local markets.
The rain encourages beautiful flowers to emerge from the soil and amongst them are some sensational endemic varieties.
Juicy pomegranates and perfumed quince swell on the trees and the markets fill with an abundance of seasonal produce.
Olives are harvested and in villages age-old traditional preparations are made for winter supplies, making the most of the prolific harvests.
Beautiful days and chilly nights
Autumn days can be warm with temperatures in the mid to high 20s but the nights become chilly.
Perfect for walking and exploring
It’s certainly one of the best times of the year for walking and enjoying the refreshed countryside.
Watch the weather forecast
However, do be prepared for rain.
In case you don’t know it’s forecast for the next few days!
Whatever the weather, enjoy this time of the year and make the most of Fethiye’s abundance of autumn fruit and vegetables.
