7th Fethiye Arts and Culture Festival a Treat for Music Lovers
The wet weather may have put a dampener on this first week of May but it didn’t stop the music at the Fethiye Arts and Cultural Festival that was held last week.
Bands from all over the world attended and played every evening.
The wet evenings may have forced the musicians into the Cultural Centre but that just added a more intimate feeling to the acts that performed.

Keeping Tabs on Tobacco
The Government introduced new regulations last week on the manufacture and controls on imported tobacco related products.
The new law defines strict specifications on the filters placed on cigarettes including the materials they are made from and the length of the filter.
The law will also prohibit from 2017 the addition of sweeteners, nicotine or menthol into filters.
Spring Festival Will Help Students
A spring festival was held in the Fethiye market area over four days last week to raise money to provide scholarships for poorer students.
The event was organised by the Fethiye Gönül Dostu Hanımlar Derneği and members of the group sold home made produce including cakes, pastries, savoury dishes, clothing, knitwear, handicrafts and more.
The evenings were filled with eating, performances and poetry readings.
A Dutch tourist was rescued by the local mountain rescue team AKUT when he sprained his ankle whilst walking on the Lycian Way.
It is reported that the 56 year old man was walking with six others when he slipped. Unable to walk his fellow walkers raised the alarm.
The man was carried by stretcher some 3.5 km by the AKUT team and also members of the Jandarma.
He was taken to Fethiye state Hospital for treatment.
Liner Visits Fethiye Again
The 140 meter long Aegean Odyssey docked alongside in Fethiye harbour for the second time this season.
Tourists disembarked to go on excursions or just wander around the town.
The ship left later in the evening and headed for Bodrum.
Belly Dancing Holiday in Fethiye
Over 50 female tourists from all over Europe including the UK attended a belly dancing and modern dance course at Club Letonia Hotel last week.
The women aged between 25 and 70 came from all sorts of backgrounds, it was reported, including judges, lawyers, doctors and engineers.
The organisers claim that dancing is a great stress reliever and is beneficial to weight loss and mental wellness.
Paragliding Pilot Appeal Fails
The court of appeal upheld the prison sentence handed down to a paragliding pilot who was judged to have contributed to the death of his passenger following a flight incident in September 2011.

The British Pound ended the week at 3.50 TL. The previous week it was 3.55 TL. The currency has gained 8 Kurus to the British Pound in the last two weeks.
It was hair today gone tomorrow for a suspected thief who was arrested up in Bodrum.
When the police searched the suspects hotel room they found three toupees along with various electronic items and a laptop.
It seems the thief was using the wigs to conceal their identity on CCTV and to witnesses.
