Big Tweet for Calis Spring Clean

Last week was Tourism Week and a number of events took place to mark the start of the 2014 tourist season for Fethiye, Oludeniz and Calis.

Volunteers turned out Wednesday to clean the bird sanctuary in Calis.

They cleaned the shore of accumulated rubbish including old tyres, cardboard boxes, plastic bags, bottles and household waste.

It was reported that the volunteers collected 20 bags of waste.

Clean Sweep for Resorts

The famous Turkish southern Aegean resorts of Oludeniz and Gocek also got on to the big spring clean fest last week too.

It was reported that 40 staff from the newly expanded Fethiye Council took to the streets to sweep, clean, mend and spruce up the resort towns.

Forager Falls

A man had to be airlifted to hospital last week when his herb foraging activities got him into trouble.

The man was reported to have slipped and fallen whilst searching for herbs. He injured his leg and could not move.

He called the Jandarma and they contacted the military airbase at Dalaman who dispatched a rescue team.

The man was airlifted to the state hospital in Fethiye where he received treatment for his injured leg.


Denizlispor beat Fethiyespor 4-1 away last week.

A wandering mule was struck by a truck on the Fethiye-Antalya highway near Karaçulha on Tuesday evening.

A vet attended to the injured animal but unfortunately it had to be put down due to the severity of the injuries.
