Last Friday the volunteer group Fethiye Hayvan Dostları (Fethiye Animal Friends) operating under the FETAV organisation, held a funding raising dinner at Şat Restaurant in Çalış to raise money for the Animal Education Centre that is planned to be built in Fethiye on land provided by the municipality.

We are pleased to report that the event was well attended and the evening raised a net total of 5500TL which will contribute towards the cost of the building.

The highlight of the evening was the auction of four football strips, signed by the teams.

One of the highlights of the evening was an auction of four football shirts from Turkish football teams Galatasaray, Fenerbahçe, Beşiktaş and our very own Fethiyespor, all signed by the teams. Local singer celebrity, Pasha, used his considerable charm to get some impressive bids for these collectors items…

As this evening was focused on the local animal population, is should be of no surprise that a local canine came to the dinner. He didn’t give his name and we have no idea whether he was invited or gatecrashed the event. Whatever the case, he thanked all the human guests for their generosity (in exchange for a meaty treat).

Water Main Repaired

If you experienced a cut in your water supply last week it was because the water authority MUSKI was repairing the water main.

It deployed a number of teams to tackle a total of 7 leaks in the main water main that brings water from the mountains above the village of Oren to Fethiye.

The teams started at 5am and completed their work and had the water flowing again by 2am it was reported.

No Spring Forward

Turkey did not change its clocks on Sunday morning like the rest of Europe and many countries in the world for summer time.

Turkey took the decision last year not to move its clocks twice a year.

However, many mobile phones and other devices still change the time, either due to age or lack of software update, causing confusion amongst citizens.

So if you were asked “What time is it?” yesterday now you know why.

Turkey is now 2 hours ahead of British Summer Time.

Turkish Money

The British Pound bought 4.50 Turkish Lira (TL) by the close of business on Friday.

The week before it was selling for 4.49 TL.
