Tour of Turkey May Move
The international Tour of Turkey cycle race is a popular annual event that sees some of the worlds professional riders and their entourage roll in and out of Fethiye each April.
But news released last week is indicating that the race could be moved to October.
Cyclingweekly reported that the organisers of the Tour of Turkey have proposed a new date for their race in the hope that it will attract the minimum number of WorldTour teams required to secure its future as a top-tier race.
The publication said “One of 10 new WorldTour events for the 2017 season, the race is supposed to run from April 18-23, a date that clashes with the Ardennes Classics, La Flèche Wallonne and Liège-Bastogne-Liège, and comes just a fortnight before the Giro d’Italia.”
The proposal is to move the race to the 8-15 October.

A tandem paragliding pilot and his passenger were injured last week when their chute lost air and saw them plummet some 15m on to rocks.
The couple had taken off from the world famous Babadag mountain on a flight to the beach some 1.2km below when disaster struck at 800m and their chute folded in a so called thermal incident.
An emergency call was made to rescue services at 11am.
The passenger, a Chinese tourist, injured his foot and was piggybacked some 300m to a waiting ambulance by one of the UMKE rescue workers.
The pilot suffered head injuries and a call was made to airlift him to hospital.
The press said that “After a long wait” a rescue helicopter from the Coast Guard Command in Antalya arrived.
The injured pilot was then taken to the helicopter on a stretcher.
The helicopter landed in the garden of Fethiye State Hospital at 17.00 hours.
The injured Paraglider pilot was treated at the hospital
The Chairman of the Oludeniz Pilot Cooperative told the local press that the pilot waited too long to be transported to hospital and he would be seeking assurances of a quicker response time going forward.
