TURSAB (Turkey’s Official Tourism Association) has some important advice if you’re going on any kind of organised trip, tour, or activity, while you’re in Fethiye.
‘Get a voucher to protect your consumer rights’
Süleyman Kaya and Salih Tasçı, who jointly chair Fethiye’s branch of TURSAB, say:
“For you own peace of mind, it’s really important to make sure that the company you are booking with, for any kind of trip or activity, is registered with TURSAB.
You should also get a voucher confirming official proof of payment.
Checking the company’s TURSAB credentials and getting a voucher is all about protecting your consumer rights.”
So many things to do
Fethiye has some of the best beaches, coastline and countryside in Turkey. The area is also justifiably famous as a centre for organised activities, ranging from visits to historical sites, to paragliding; from boat trips to jeep and quad bike safaris. In Fethiye, it’s no exaggeration to say, there is something for everyone.
Some of these activities can be booked in advance, even before you arrive for your holiday, while others may be spur of the moment treats.
Likewise, some are organised through your tour operator, or booked on line but others are booked direct with the relevant activity, or via your holiday rep or hotel’s reception desk.
Be safe not sorry
Salih Taşcı explained:
“Although legislation relating to payment has been on the statutes since 2006, many tourists fail to get any official proof of handing over their money. This means that, should there be any problem with your activity and you want to make a complaint, or you need to make a claim on your own or the company’s insurance, this will be impossible.
What’s more, if the company with which you are booking is unable to produce a TURSAB authorized official confirmation of payment with a voucher number and all the necessary information, it could well mean that it is operating without a licence, or the correct paper work, and this too could jeopardise any chance of compensation, refund or legal action.”
Taşcı described in detail the information that should be included on the official proof of payment voucher:
“Obviously, it should show the date you booked; the name or names of the people in the group; the date of the activity; the price you paid (together with deposit, balance and total payment) and what the activity includes.
There should also be an official voucher number, the name of the company, and TURSAB details.
This information is absolutely essential if the unfortunate event arises where the customer has to make any claim, or complaint.”
Ask for a voucher
TURSAB said the forms could look something like these (1 & 2):
and a confirmation email like this:
They also and pointed out that these are payment vouchers not tax invoices.
TURSAB says ‘have a wonderful time!’
Whatever activities you decide to enjoy while you are in Fethiye, TURSAB wishes you a wonderful, happy and safe holiday in this glorious part of Turkey.
